Online shopping behemoth Amazon is gearing up to move an avalanche of packages around the country this Christmas season.
The retail and tech giant is aiming to hire 1000 people to bolster its workforce in fulfilment and logistics centres, and to make deliveries.
Amazon said applications are open now in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Newcastle and the Gold Coast.
Amazon’s Jacqui Marker said the seasonal roles were perfect for students on summer breaks, retirees wanting to stay active or those looking to earn some extra money.
Drivers who work for Amazon under its Flex delivery program, which was launched in Australia in 2020, are self-employed.
Media reports last year estimated about 2000 drivers work for Flex.
According to its website, Amazon Australia has more than 7000 employees nationwide.
In the US, Amazon has drawn attention for its strident opposition to a unionised workforce and working conditions some employees have complained about.
