Up to 150 people have been evacuated after a factory fire in Melbourne sent plumes of smoke into the area.
It took 60 firefighters about 2.5 hours to bring the factory fire under control on Spencer Street in Melbourne’s CBD after it sparked in the early hours of this morning.
The building appears to be abandoned.
150 residents were evacuated from an apartment complex next door as a precaution due to the amount of smoke billowing from the fire.
The road has also been blocked off as firefighters continue to check for spot fires inside the building.
Authorities do not yet know the cause of the fire or if it is suspicious.
A crime scene has been established and fire investigators are expected to attend the scene later today.
