Over 1,500 firefighters protest in Melbourne

Over 1,500 professional firefighters in Victoria are protesting in Melbourne today following a breakdown in wage talks between the union and the Victorian government.

The protest is expected to be the largest the United Firefighters Union of Australia has ever seen in Victoria.

The rally is due to a breakdown in negotiations around an enterprise bargaining agreement the union and Fire Rescue Victoria have been working on for the better part of two years.

They had sorted out every aspect except wages and allowances.

However, due to the continued disagreement on wages and allowances, the Victorian government decided to scrap the enterprise agreement.
