A new report has revealed that over three million Australians are at risk of homelessness.
As the number of Australians at risk of homelessness rises, homeless services are reported to be inadequate.
The number of Australians at risk of homelessness increased by 63 per cent in the six years between 2016 and 2022, a new economic report has revealed.
In 2016, between 1.5 and 2 million Australians were at risk of homelessness, and by 2022, that number had risen from 2.7 million to 3.2 million, the report said.
In relation to this research report, 23 institutions that provide services to the homeless have been surveyed for two weeks last September.
The majority of those agencies were unable to cope with the high demand and 83 percent of services were unable to answer phone calls, it said.
With more than three million people at risk of homelessness, these services have reportedly had to close their offices prematurely and go unanswered.
The number of people at risk of homelessness in Victoria and New South Wales rose by 67 per cent and 64 per cent respectively in the period based on the survey.
