Overseas airfares from Australia set to get cheaper

Overseas airfares from Australia are set to get cheaper as airlines look to boost capacity.

Qantas, Singapore Airlines, and Thai Airways are expected to add more flights in the coming months, while Turkish Airlines will enter the market, potentially driving airfares down by more than 10 per cent.

Flight Centre Chief Executive Graham Turner says there’s “absolutely no doubt” more capacity will not only make it easier for travellers to get seats but will also bring prices down “significantly”.

“We saw this when Qatar started to go directly from Doha into New Zealand – three flights a week extra – and it brought the fares down over 12 per cent,” he told Sky News Australia.

“We know it’ll bring fares down – I believe it’ll be significantly more than 10 per cent.”
