Parliament will convene from 3rd of December to 6th of December as decided on at the Party Leaders’ meeting chaired by Speaker Dr. Asoka Ranwala on 25th of November , Secretary-General of Parliament Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera said.
The motion on the Government’s Policy Statement presented by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Parliament recently will be debated on 3rd of December from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
It was further agreed that the debate will continue on 4th of December from 9.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. with a division on the motion scheduled for 5.00 p.m.
At the Party Leaders’ meeting it was decided to hold the debate on the resolution on the Vote on Account for the first four months of 2025 on 5th of December and 6th of December from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
Discussions were also held on the allocation of time for the debate between the Government and the Opposition, the composition of Government and Opposition representatives in committees, setting up the Committee of Selection and submission of nominations, formation of the Committee on Parliamentary Business and other committees, functioning of Sectoral Oversight Committees and consideration of a request to set up a Women Parliamentarians Caucus in the Tenth Parliament.
Deputy Speaker Dr. Rizvie Salih, Deputy Chairperson of Committees Hemali Weerasekara, Leader of the House Minister Bimal Rathnayake, Chief Government Whip Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, and other Party Leaders participated.
