Prime Minister Albanese has agreed to announce the minimum age limit for social media use in Australia as 16 years.
Accordingly, it is stated that the draft law for legalizing the minimum age limit is to be submitted to the parliament this month.
It is reported that under the proposed law, there will be no relief for children under 16 who already have social media accounts or use social media with parental consent.
A special cabinet meeting, including state and local leaders, is scheduled to discuss the proposed changes.
The legislation is predicted to prevent teenagers under 16 from using social media by the end of 2024.
Also, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said to the media today that he expects to conduct a review of the new laws after they come into force.
The Prime Minister stated that there are policies that prevent children under the age of 14 from joining certain social media, but they are not enforced and full forward steps will be taken in this regard under the new laws.
