A popular tech item sold at Kmart stores nationally has been recalled over choking hazards associated with the button/coin batteries.
Product Safety Australia recalled the item due to the product not complying with mandatory information standards for products containing button/coin batteries.
The consumer watchdog said the product did not include the required warning information.
“There is a risk of choking, severe internal burn injuries or death to young children if they gain access to the button/coin batteries and swallow or place them inside their body,” the recall said.
“Severe or fatal injuries can happen in 2 hours or less.
“Consumers may not be aware that the product contains a button battery.”
People who have purchased the product should keep the product out of reach of children, and should contact Kmart to receive the warning information.
“Our Anko Smart Tag complies to the product safety standard and the button battery compartment is secured,” a Kmart spokesperson said.
“However, the product does not have the required labelling for products with button batteries which is why it is being recalled.
“Customers who have purchased this product should get in contact with Kmart customer service for further information.”
The tag was sold nationally both in-store and online from December 28 last year until January 16.
