Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s former home for sale

The Prime Minister’s old house has been listed for sale two and a half years after it was sold by Anthony Albanese for more than twice the price he paid.

Records show the three bedroom house at 95 Beauchamp St, Marrickville had been held by Albanese and his then wife Carmel Tebbutt since 2012, when it traded for $1,115,000, before being sold in 2021 for $2,350,000 – one year before Albanese was voted in as Prime Minister.

Shortly after taking over as PM, Albanese drew attention for his property portfolio, when it was revealed he was raking in $115,000 a year in rental income on top of his $564,356 salary as Prime Minister as interest rates soared for struggling families.

The Prime Minister was reported to have amassed a property portfolio worth around $5 million before he offloaded several properties to take his holdings down to around $4 million in 2022.

The property has now been advertised for sale through Adrian William Newtown with a price guide equal to its last sold price.

“If there’s anyone that has any interest in owning a property that was once owned by the Prime Minister, this could be an opportunity,” lead agent Adrian Tsavalas said.

He said the price guide was based on comparable properties in the neighbourhood following three years of “up and down” growth.

Buyers had already shown interest at its first open for inspection on Saturday, with many attracted to its “turn key” condition as well as its natural light and proximity to Cook River

“It has a great outlook over the golf course,” Mr Tsavalas said.

“It’s a really peaceful pocket of Marrickville as well.”

Records show the house, which is on the same street as Albanese’s home, was used as an investment property and had been rented out for $915 a week before being sold in 2021.

The current vendors then rented it out for $1150 before moving in themselves.

“It would rent for somewhere between $1200 and $1300 a week now,” Mr Tsavalas said.

He said the property had been well maintained when the vendors purchased it.

“It was in good nick,” he said. “It’s a home that’s been well maintained over the years.”

The two storey house has an upstairs living area that flows to an outdoor entertainment area with a barbecue kitchen overlooking the adjacent Marrickville Golf Course. The living room has blackbutt flooring and large windows while a designer bathroom has a luxe freestanding tub.
