Prime Minister casts Yes vote for Voice to Parliament in Sydney

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese casts his vote for the upcoming Voice to Parliament in Sydney.

Mr Albanese fronted media to give an impassioned plea for the proposed constitutional change on Saturday, exactly a week out from the referendum day on October 14.

“I’ll be heading to Marrickville Town Hall to cast my vote today for Yes because I know that we need to do better,” he said at a press conference at Redfern Oval, the former home ground of his favourite NRL team the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

“That’s why people who have examined this proposal, whether they be the faith groups…the sporting codes… community based organisations…the people I’ve been with… are all coming together to take up this opportunity.

Mr  Albanese attempted to simplify the Voice again for voters who may be sitting on the fence, stating there is “nothing to fear” despite a purported lack of understanding or detail acting as an argument by many Australians who are leaning towards No.

“This referendum is about just two things. One, recognising the fact of our history. The fact that our history goes back some 65,000 years and acknowledging that, acknowledging the first people of our lands,” he said.

“And the second is the form of that should be simply a non-binding advisory committee. Nothing to fear here. Just a committee able to make representations to government and then parliament and government still being the decision-maker but Indigenous Australians being able to be listened to for their views.”
