Queensland to fund home births for low-risk pregnant women

Queensland women will soon have the option of a publicly funded home birth.

The move brings the state into line with most other states and territories in Australia.

Home birthing numbers have almost doubled since 2018.

The option costs women more than $6,000 for a private midwife.

Under the changes, the service will allow low-risk pregnant women with a single baby to give birth at home.
