Several former ministers out of Parliament

According to the results announced so far in the 2024 general election, it is reported that several former ministers have not been able to get a parliamentary seat.

It is reported that the former Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera, who represented Hambantota district, has also not been able to get a seat in Parliament this year.

Also, former ministers Ramesh Pathirana and Manusha Nanayakkara, who represented Galle district, have also lost their parliamentary mandates due to their inability to win a seat.

It is special that Kanchana Wijesekera from Matara district, who served as the Minister of Electricity and Energy in the previous government, could not retain the position of Member of Parliament this time.

Also, former state minister Shashindra Rajapaksa has also been defeated in this year’s general election.

It is also notable that Nipuna Ranawaka, the candidate who received the most votes in the 2020 parliamentary elections, could not win a parliamentary seat this time.

Meanwhile, it is reported that Mr. Dhamma Sirisena, the son of former President Maithripala Sirisena, who contested for the Polonnaruwa district from the Universal Power Party, has also not been able to get a position as a Member of Parliament.
