SL election : Increasing demand for firecrackers

The All Ceylon Fireworks Manufacturers Association (ACFMA) today claimed that there is a higher demand for fireworks in view of the 2024 Presidential election.

Association chairman Dinesh Fernando told the Daily Mirror that the sale of fireworks has seen a considerable increase.

There is a higher demand for the production of large-scale fireworks (mal vedi) used for election rallies and events, he added.

The chairman claimed that the demand for fireworks may increase on days following the election.

Dinesh Fernando, President of the All Ceylon Fireworks Manufacturers Association, has reported a remarkable increase in the sales of firecrackers during this Sinhala and Tamil New Year, defying expectations amidst a broader slowdown in consumer spending.

Fernando noted that while sales of most consumer goods remained subdued, the demand for firecrackers, including traditional favorites, has seen a notable upswing.
