Smoking and vaping causes eye problems

Users who smoke a combination of both vapes and cigarettes have a higher likelihood of developing eye issues, a study has found.

These symptoms can include eye pain, burning, itching, redness, dryness, glare, blurriness and headaches.

People who smoke only cigarettes are more likely to experience the symptoms than those who only vape, however, the combination of both prompted the most frequent symptoms, the study from Canada’s McGill University found.

The research included 4351 smokers and vapers between 13 to 24 years old.

“Dual use of e-cigarettes and cigarettes was associated with a higher severity and frequency of ocular symptoms among adolescents and young adults in the US,” the report said.

“Dual users were at increased risk of ocular symptoms, regardless of the intensity (frequency) of cigarette and e-cigarette use.”

Lower general health, trouble falling asleep and a higher risk of heart disorders have also been identified as symptoms experienced by dual users of vapes and cigarettes in past studies.

Vapes and e-cigarettes have been the most commonly used tobacco products among young people in the US since 201, according to McGill University.
