South Australian families are being urged to continue their child care options for next Friday after public school teachers voted in favour of a one-day strike.
It is in response to what the SA branch of the Australian Education Union (AEU) has described as an insulting enterprise bargaining offer from the state government.
A ballot of union members, which closed late on Friday, found 80 per cent voted to walk off the job on Friday, September 1.
In a statement the Department for Education said it will provide support to schools and pre-schools to ensure “no child is turned away” next Friday.
However, it warned parents and caregivers to consider their child care options.
“Schools and pre-schools will be in touch with their parent communities next week to advise what services will be available at each specific site, and we would urge families to keep an eye out for that advice,” it said.
