Sri Lanka Customs has only 2,000 containers to clear

Sri Lanka Customs has cleared 4,835 containers from July 08 to 12, compared to a total of 5,557 boxes for which clearance documents were submitted, a statement said.

There are only about 2,000 boxes left by Friday, out of a backlog built up during a work to rule campaign, the statement said.

Officers would also work on Saturday as a normal working day to clear the backlog, a statement from Sri Lanka Customs said.

It is expected that after Monday, the remaining backlog would be cleared.

Essential food and medicines cleared seven days a week.

On aveage 970 containers had been cleared daily, the statement said.
