Nearly 50,000 divorce cases were heard in courts as of December 2022, it was reported.
According to statistics shared by Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, 48,391 cases of divorce were taken up for hearing at courts until December 31, 2022.
Speaking to the media on Valentine’s Day, celebrated yesterday, the Justice Minister further said that during this period 37, 514 cases were related to maintenance for the spouse or children.
“This is considered a large number of cases for a small country such as Sri Lanka,” he added. (NewsWire)
