Sri Lanka to host Asia Rugby’s Youth Championship

Asia Rugby has offered Sri Lanka the chance to host a 16-team Under-20 Boys and Girls Rugby Tournament in mid-October this year.

Teams from eight countries across Asia, including Sri Lanka, will participate in the tournament. This opportunity comes after Sri Lanka successfully hosted the Asia Division Rugby Tournament recently.

This tournament is a significant opportunity for Sri Lanka to promote sports tourism, especially after a challenging period for rugby in the country.

According to Sri Lanka Rugby sources, Asia Rugby is pleased with Sri Lanka’s coaching programs, performance, and tournament organization, as well as its good governance. Asia Rugby expressed satisfaction with Sri Lanka Rugby’s progress since new office bearers took over following a suspension. “These are the benefits of doing a good job,” said a Sri Lanka Rugby spokesperson. “Asia Rugby is very happy with our performance in the last Asia Division One Rugby Tournament.”

“This will be a big tournament for us,” the spokesperson added. “Our coaching, match officiating, training, conditioning, medical, administration, and accounting are all in line.” “Working as a team, we are emerging from the difficulties caused by suspension. We’ve held back-to-back local tournaments like the Governor’s Cup, League Tournament, and Knockout Tournament. We are also conducting training courses in universities to upgrade the sport’s standards.”
