Surge in asylum seekers arriving in Australia by plane

There has been an increase in asylum seekers arriving in Australia by plane.

This has prompted the Opposition to demand a crackdown on non-genuine refugees.

Deputy Opposition Leader Sussan Ley said the asylum seekers are not coming from countries which are “conflict zones”.

Ms Ley said they’re coming from countries “where, essentially, they have peaceful governments”.

“And there is no war, and there is no conflict,” she said.
