Sydney Metro to finally open Monday

The Transport Minister has confirmed the Sydney Metro will open on Monday after passing all its safety checks,

Transport Minister Jo Haylen announced in a post on X that the metro will open on August 19, this coming Monday.

The Office of the National Rail Safety confirmed a few hours earlier that the safety checks, which were said to have stalled the opening, have been completed and the Metro is ready to open.

The announcement comes a week and a half after the Mero was supposed to open on August 4.

Minister for Transport Jo Haylen announced the project was delayed at the end of July.

“Unfortunately, passengers are going to have to wait until we open Sydney Metro but not that much longer…it will be worth it,” Haylen said last month.

The Metro City line will run between Sydenham and Chatswood Station, stopping at Crows Nest Station, the new Victoria Cross Station in North Sydney, Barangaroo, Martin Place, Gadigal Station, Central Station and Waterloo Station
