Residents in Sydney and other parts of NSW are preparing for damaging wind gusts that could bring down trees and power lines.
Very dry and potentially dangerous’ fire conditions in NSW
NSW Rural Fire Service inspector Ben Shepherd spoke with the Today show just earlier about the strong winds forecast for the state, and elevated fire risk about the Illawarra and greater Sydney.
He said winds were slowly picking up about the coast, expected to peak around lunchtime and into the afternoon, “and that’s definitely driving up the fire danger”.
There could also be gusts of up to 100km/h that could last into the afternoon, with wind averaging between 60km/h and 70km/h.
The SES is warning residents to trim tree branches and secure any loose structures around homes such as outdoor furniture and trampolines.
It will be a warm second day of spring, with temperatures up to 25 degrees.
It should then cool a few degrees mid-week, before a hot Thursday and Friday with temperatures up to 29 degrees.
Sunday was a balmy 24 degrees in the city.
