Sydney’s water management authorities say water charges will have to rise by around 50 per cent over the next five years due to a growing population.
Sydney Water officials say the city is expected to grow by 300,000 homes and they will have to raise water bills to pay for facility upgrades.
Accordingly, it is said that the average water bill rates will increase by $4.35 per week for family units facing the cost of living crisis.
Sydney Water has also asked the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) to support the proposed rate increase.
Sydney Water says it will invest more than $26 billion to improve existing water supplies in Greater Sydney, the Illawarra region and the Blue Mountains.
The New South Wales Government will decide whether or not to approve the proposed price increase.
