The rail strike in Sydney, which lasted until today, has been called off.
It is reported that this decision has been taken after discussions between the Railway Employees Union and the New South Wales Government.
New South Wales’ biggest-ever rail strike has now ended and trains will run as normal over the weekend.
Passengers will be able to travel by train as normal from today until Sunday, and several strikes planned for the next two weeks have been called off, state transport authorities announced.
Prime Minister Chris Minns has intervened due to the inability of Transport Minister Joe Halen to reach an agreement with the Railway, Tram and Bus Workers’ Union.
The Prime Minister noted that an agreement was reached with the Amalgamated Railway Unions to ensure that trains would run as normal this weekend.
The union representatives have stated that they hope that the government and the state prime minister will provide a solution to their salary problem before Christmas and that they will discuss this matter in the future as well.
