Texas grocer breaks Guinness World Record with avocados

Everything really is bigger in Texas. Our fair state is home to a variety of Guinness World Record holders, including the largest collection of Sonic the Hedgehog memorabilia. Over the weekend, a local Dallas grocery chain became the newest recipient of a world record certificate.

On Saturday, El Rio Grande Latin Market announced that it officially broke the world record for largest fruit display with a gargantuan exhibition using avocados.

According to the Guinness database, El Rio Grande’s Cinco de Mayo-themed display used 301,000 avocados and weighed 86,764 pounds.  El Rio Grande also received a certification from a representative from the Guiness World Record, who inspected the display.

The record was previously held by Del Monte Fresh Produce and Jewel-Osco in Westmont, Il. On June 8, 2022, Del Monte put on a display consisting of  211,000 bananas.

“It took 7 [years] of hard work, dedication, and a whole lot of avocado love to make this dream a reality,” El Rio Grande wrote on LinkedIn.

El Rio Grande held a party at their 3035 N Buckner Blvd. store after receiving the certification. Mariachis and giveaways were held along with avocado recipe presentations and even an avocado-themed cake bake-off, WFAA reported. Dallas. According to social media posts, the award winning avocados were also sold at a steal: 5 for $1.
