The new Cabinet of Ministers of the National People’s Power, which won the recent general election, is scheduled to be sworn in today.
It is reported that the new cabinet will be sworn in today at 10 am in the presence of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The entire cabinet of the new government consists of 50 members and the number of cabinet ministers will be between 23 or 25.
It is reported that 25 or 27 Deputy Ministers will be appointed.
Tilvin Silva, Senior Spokesman of the National People’s Power, had earlier stated that the Cabinet will be limited to 25 or less and a scientific method will be followed in assigning subjects to the ministries.
The inaugural session of the 10th Parliament consisting of members elected in the general election is scheduled to begin on the 21st.
By now, there has been a lot of discussion in the society regarding the new government’s position as Prime Minister.
Although some parties had said that it should go to Vijitha Herath, it has been decided to give the post to the current Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, political sources said.
It is also stated that no decision has been taken so far regarding the appointment of state ministers.
