Commuters planning on having a late night out in Sydney this weekend will be able to catch the train home with 24-hour services running until Sunday.
From midnight Yesterday until early Sunday morning, Sydney trains will be running all day and all night.
It’s understood suburban train lines will be the focus of the 24-hour operation in the latest move by the Rail, Tram, and Bus Union in its pay dispute with the NSW government.
A train will run every 30 minutes between midnight and 4am, when trains would usually not be operational.
The 24-hour service does not include the Metro.
While there’s no information about planned strikes or delays over the weekend, Transport Minister Jo Haylen warned yesterday that there could be disruptions for commuters.
The union did say workers would be restricted to how far they could travel while on the 24-hour service.
“While these bans are in place, they’re like a boa constrictor on our train network, they’re strangling it and making it harder and harder and eventually squeeze the life out of the network,” Haylen said.
The union says it is running the 24-hour timetable as a way to advocate for full-time around-the-clock transport in Sydney.
