Violence rates spike against hospital staff in Queensland

Violence against Queensland public hospital staff has increased rapidly over the last two years.

New data shows more than 14,000 incidents were recorded from 2022 to 2023 – equal to nearly 40 incidents per day.

This was a more than 13 per cent increase compared to the years 2019 to 2020

This financial year is set to be the worst, with more than 5,000 incidents in the first 120 days.

Increased demand, sicker patients and workforce shortages are said to be factors increasing the violence.
