WMO declares 2023 as the warmest year on record

Last year has officially been declared the warmest year on record.

The World Meteorological Organization said the Earth was 1.48 degrees Celsius warmer than pre-industrial levels.

This almost breaches the 1.5-degree threshold – a key benchmark for climate change tracking.

Every month between June and December shattered global temperature records.

July and August were the hottest months on record.
