Calls for pill testing to be conducted at festivals

There are calls for pill testing to be done at festivals after a mass overdose at a recent music event in Melbourne.

Using a free drug-checking service – festival goers will be able to make informed decisions from healthcare workers who can provide harm minimisation support.

Experts suggest there is no evidence it increases drug use after it was trialled at Victoria’s ‘Groovin’ in the Moo’.

Acting Victoria Premier Ben Carroll however says they don’t believe the measure is “needed right now”.

“We don’t want people taking drugs in the first place – that’s the most important message we can get through.”
