Novak Djokovic has defeated Daniil Medvedev to seal an incredible 24th grand slam title at the US Open.
Djokovic prevailed in an “outrageous” encounter 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3.
“Djokovic is king of New York once again,” Todd Woodbridge said in commentary for Nine after match point.
“In the history books, that will go down as a straight-sets victory and think ‘Oh, that was pretty comfortable’ – it was far from comfortable,” Woodbridge continued.
“It was such an extraordinary physical battle in that second set, Medvedev threw everything at him that he possibly could and Novak looked at one point like me might crumble. But the mental capacity of the man is extraordinary.”
“He’s a mental giant,” Jelena Dokic added.
