UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak surpass King Charles in wealth

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty have ascended in the ranks of the annual Sunday Times Rich List, propelled by Murty’s lucrative shareholding in Infosys.

The couple climbed from 275th place last year to 245th, with an estimated wealth of GBP 651 million, making them the wealthiest occupants of 10 Downing Street to date. Murty’s significant earnings, primarily from Infosys dividends, have contributed to their rise, surpassing even King Charles III on the wealth index.

Murty has substantial shareholding in Infosys, a company co-founded by her father, Narayan Murthy. Over the past year, the value of these shares has surged by GBP 108.8 million, nearing GBP 590 million in total. Murty’s dividends over the same period amounted to approximately GBP 13 million, with expectations of an additional GBP 10.5 million this year.

Meanwhile, the Hinduja family, of Indian origin, maintains its stronghold at the top of the list, with a wealth exceeding GBP 37.196 billion. Their recent venture, the OWO Hotel in London, has further bolstered their financial standing. Another pair of India-born brothers, David and Simon Reuben, have ascended to third place on the list, amassing a fortune of approximately GBP 24.977 billion.

Among other Indian-origin billionaires featured in the 2024 Rich List are Lakshmi N. Mittal, Anil Agarwal, Prakash Lohia, Mohsin and Zuber Issa, and Navin and Varsha Engineer.
