Wild winds knock roofs off homes, ground flights on Australia’s east coast

Dozens of domestic flights at Sydney Airport have been cancelled or delayed amid wild weather conditions.

“Due to strong winds and scattered storm cells, airlines have cancelled a number of domestic flights and there will be some delays throughout the day,” a Sydney Airport spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au.

Passengers are advised to check with their airline regarding the status of their flight.

It comes after damaging wind gusts ripped through Sydney on Thursday night and into Friday morning.

The SES was kept busy with dozens of calls for help across the city.

The Bureau of Meteorology forecast the wild weather to ease in Sydney on Friday afternoon.

Winds were expected to peak at 35km/h in the morning before dropping to 15km/h to 25km/h at night.

Strong winds have grounded flights and blown roofs off homes as a spring storm moves through Sydney.

The storm is affecting Australia’s east coast, with New South Wales and Victoria copping the brunt of the storm.

More than 90 calls were made to the NSW State Emergency Service in the last 24 hours, with more than 40 coming in after midnight.
